Apture and Reuters.com Enhance Access to Rich Media on the Web
International news services selects technology provider used by New York Times, BBC, Washington Post to boost reader engagement online
San Mateo, Calif. — April 29, 2009 — In a move that signals a shift in the way news media uses technology to boost readership, Apture (www.apture.com), a company with a mission to turn flat web pages into multimedia experiences, announces today an agreement with news giant Reuters.com, to expand the site's technology and service infrastructure, allowing editors and writers to easily layer videos, maps, images, slideshows, documents, and audio into their stories so readers can explore related content in the moment without losing their place on the page. ( See an example from the Reuters Fan Fare blog.)
"When it comes to using technology to take the news experience to the next level, few can match what Reuters.com does each and every day, and we're thrilled they have tapped us for their latest online enhancement. With our ability to make content come alive in a multi-media experience on the page, we are excited to be part of the site's roadmap for leveraging technology to transform the online experience," said Tristan Harris, Apture's CEO and Co-Founder.
Apture's innovative technology helps Reuters.com enhance its content with intuitive links to related information available on the Web, without directing reader traffic away from Reuters.com. Readers can choose to explore related content within Reuters online articles by accessing videos, charts, maps, and images within Apture's mini-browser windows.
"As an online publisher, we are always looking for ways to enrich our users' experience and engage our audience," said Liesel Kipp, vice president and global head of product management, Consumer Media at Thomson Reuters. "Apture's technology allows us to leverage the depth and breadth of our content in new and innovative ways."
This announcement comes on the heels of Apture's completion of a $4.1 million Series-A funding round led by Clearstone Venture Partners. Apture's growing list of premium news clients includes Reuters, BBC News, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and San Francisco Chronicle.
