WashingtonPost.com Adds Multidimensional News Experience to Blogs

Readers Can Quickly View Related Articles and Multimedia Without Leaving Page

WASHINGTON, April 15, 2008 — WashingtonPost.com, an award-winning news and information Web site, today introduces an innovative, multidimensional news platform called Apture on two popular blogs. Readers can easily browse and view related videos, articles and information chosen by WashingtonPost.com editors without ever leaving the page.

The Apture company launched earlier this month and WashingtonPost.com is the first site to feature its ground-breaking technology. Chris Cillizza’ political news on ‘The Fix,’ and Liz Kelly’ entertainment coverage on ‘Celebritology’ are the first blogs to use Apture. Over time, WashingtonPost.com will integrate Apture into most of the site’ blogs, articles and databases.

“Apture adds a new dimension—a web of information—inside WashingtonPost.com stories, and continues our mission of bringing readers the most comprehensive and in-depth news coverage,” said Jim Brady, Executive Editor of WashingtonPost.com. “Reading patterns aren’t always linear. As something piques readers’ interests we want to be able to give them the opportunity to dig deep, satisfy their curiosities and become even more involved in our site.”

When readers hover over an Apture linked term in an article, an elegant floating box emerges with a menu of related material chosen by the site’ editors. This technology gives readers the ability to quickly access relevant, in-depth coverage that caters to individual interests. Clicking an item in the floating box menu opens a small window where readers can view an article, video or photo gallery, while continuing to stay on the original page.

“Apture, along side WashingtonPost.com, is opening an exciting new way for people to interact with the Web, providing a platform for editorial and commerce that consumers are eager to embrace,” said Tristan Harris, Co-Founder and CEO of Apture.
