Outside Lands
The inaugural Outside Lands Festival took over San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park with Radiohead playing the first ever after-dark show.
Together with their state-of-the-art ecofriendly light display, the greatest band on earth mesmerized the crowd with classic songs from their extensive career.
They started the show with “15 Step”, a high-energy banger that sent the crowd into a frenzy.
Unfortunately, in what would be a recurring theme throughout the festival, logistics were far from perfect.
A couple songs into the set, as Thom Yorke lulled the crowd with “All I Need”, the sound completely cut out.
But, as Thom would say later in the show, “It’s ultimately about the music.”
The band continued with a near perfect set, sending the crowd home with a newfound appreciation for live music.
Saturday brought the festival's first full day of music, with a variety of artists including Devendra Banhart, Ben Harper, and Lupe Fiasco. Tom Petty closed out the night, as the voices of fans singing “Freefalling” echoed throughout the San Francisco streets.
By the last day of the festival, concertgoers seemed tired after so much excitement.
Broken Social Scene sent the crowd home with an overwhelming performance. They closed the show with “Ibi Dreams of Pavement”, as the crowd screamed to the top of their lungs.
Co-ordinating and technical complications apart, the inaugural Outside Lands Festival was a complete success, and left concertgoers eager for next year’s.
