How Apture Works

From Apture Wiki

1. A website owner installs one line of code to their site template to enable Apture. This takes less than five minutes for any webmaster.

2. With Apture installed, an authorized editor may visit any page on your site and press the ‘e’ key for a login window to appear, right within the web browser. They enter their account username and password, and Apture Editing is enabled.

3. Logged in, the editor selects any word or phrase on the page, and Apture automatically brings up a window to search popular multimedia libraries from around the web, as well as results from your own library of images, videos, etc. Apture presents search results within a floating window on the same web page.

4. The editor selects a multimedia item, and clicks to view a preview. The editor then clicks one button to link the multimedia to the selected phrase. That’s it, no codes or programming required!

(The editor can also provide a URL or embed code to a specific media item, or upload files directly from your computer to link on the page)

5. When any other person visits the page from then on, they will see the selected phrase as a link with a video icon.

When users click the link, Apture presents the multimedia item above the page content in a floating window.

6. Editors may add more than one multimedia item to each link by clicking the “Add Related Media” button at the bottom of Apture window. With this feature, a collection of media may be linked to a single term. When finished, a reader may click a link to watch a video, and then click another link inside the window to see the biography of the person in the video, side by side – all without leaving the page.
